What exactly is home staging? It’s using proven techniques and guidelines to prepare your home for sale for maximum sales appeal. Think of your home as a house, and your house as a product. If you are going to sell it quickly for top dollar you have to make it look attractive to the buyer. Home Staging is changing your house from “as is” to “the best it can be”. Little fixes make big impressions such as taking care of the scuffed walls, dirty tubs and sinks, greasy stove, cobwebs in ceiling corners and dusty fixtures just to name a few. Staging is like detailing your home as if you would detail your car when you are ready to sell it. If you walked into Macy’s and found a blouse you liked but a button was missing, you would ask for a discount. That may mean a few buck whereas your house may mean a few thousand dollars!
Staging is not decorating. Decorating means personalizing your space whereas staging is depersonalizing it. Staging is very visual. It’s all about presentation. It means rearranging the furniture so it highlights the focal points in each room. It means getting rid of clutter. Keep in mind less is more – clutter eats equity! Buyers only know what they see, not the way it’s going to be. The way you live in your home and the way we market and sell your home are two different things. Staging homes usually doesn’t cost much money, mainly a little time and energy on your part to create a space for buyers to mentally move their own things in.
