Mclean is one of the most affluent areas around. It is part of Fairfax County and is located between the George Washington Parkway and the town of Vienna. The community received its name from John Roll McLean, the former publisher and owner of The Washington Post.
McLean is known for two of the largest regional shopping malls in the Washington metropolitan area, Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria. It is also known for its many upscale homes. Due to its close proximity to Washington, DC and to the Central Intelligence Agency such residents include diplomats, members of Congress and high ranking federal government officials.
McLean has some of the best ranked public and private schools in the country. The Fairfax County Park Authority provides eight major parks, eight public recreation centers, seven public golf courses, and nine nature and historical sites.
Several major companies are headquartered in McLean including Freddie Mac, Mars, Capital One, Gannett, NVR, Bearingpoint, and Booz Allen Hamilton.
