| The City of Falls Church is truly a unique and historic place. The Falls Church from which the city takes its name was first built in 1734 and George Washington was one of the churchwardens. Falls Church is located approximately 6 miles from the Nation's Capital and is inside the Capital Beltway. It gives you a sense of a small town atmosphere while its location provides you access to the luxuries of big city life. Each neighborhood is a treasure of its own including a variety of restaurants and shops that reflect the City's great ethnic and cultural diversity. While parts of neighboring Fairfax County share the Falls Church mailing address, it remains an independent city. Falls Church also borders Arlington County. The Metrorail has two stations, East Falls Church and West Falls Church-VT/UVA, located just outside of the city. The city is now discussing a strategic plan to revitalize its historic downtown area. Their vision in this plan includes public spaces for gatherings, shops, cafes, offices and housing. The new and improved downtown will add to the city's assortment of recreational activities including an excellent park system, local community centers and libraries, museums, shops and restaurants, all within miles of the city limits.
